Not without good reason people used to say that there is apparently no counting the saints in Sayram. It is well known that from time immemorial thankful descendents of the Turkic-speaking peoples gave the names "Ata", "Bab", "Ana" to verily saint people, to wise teachers preaching Islam among the people, to sheykhs and dervishes who are considered to be Allakh's beloved servants. Whatever aul. of the Sayram region or another corner of the spacious steppe you may decide to visit you are sure to come across a mausoleum, an epitaph or a mazar of some reverend saint. Each of them has made his mark in history, each possesses his special place. There is no counting the pilgrims who come here from far-away places and foreign countries in order to bow over the graves of the saints. In our attempt to acquaint you with these saints we are going to lean upon the evidence of the manuscript sources we have at our disposal.
